Chronic Disease Management Plan (previously called “Enhanced Primary Care Plan”)
The Chronic Disease Management Plan provides rebates for 5 speech pathology sessions each year. Eligible children must have a chronic condition (i.e. one that has been present for 6 months or longer) and complex care needs (i.e. they require care from at least two other health care providers beside their GP. Health care providers may include speech pathology, audiology, psychology, occupational therapy and physiotherapy). Children with autism are eligible. Please check with your GP regarding your child’s eligibility and to get a referral for this plan.
Helping Children with Autism Plan – Medicare
The Helping Children with Autism Plan supports intervention for children aged up to 15 years with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) (or other less prevalent pervasive developmental disorders e.g. Rett's Disorder). This plan offers a rebate for 20 allied health therapy sessions which can be used on speech pathology. Referrals for this plan must be written by your child’s 13th birthday and need to be made by a paediatrician or psychiatrist.
Helping Children with Autism – FaHCSIA
The Helping Children with Autism Plan (FaHCSIA) supports early intervention for children aged up to 7 years with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Each child who is diagnosed with ASD must be deemed eligible by an Autism Advisor before their 6th birthday. Eligible children are able to access up to $12,000 funding (maximum of $6,000 per financial year) to spend on health services, including speech pathology. Further information is available from the Helping Children with Autism Inquiry line on 1800 778 581 or the Helping Children with Autism website.
